Kylie Jenner is being encouraged to read the room after announcing her latest promotion for Kylie Cosmetics.
Over the weekend, she posted a short video on Instagram of herself being arrested.
In the clip, the reality star-turned-billionaire beauty mogul was featured wearing a black leather bra, matching micro shorts, a silver hip chain, translucent black tights, and black point-toe pumps.
Her long, dark, wavy hair, with teal highlights, cascaded down her shoulders, and she wore smoldering makeup.
Handcuffed, Jenner, 28, strode in slow motion down a prison hallway, with two police officers on either side of her behind.
The words “King Kylie. Tomorrow” appeared on the screen and a woman’s voice could be heard whispering.
“King Kylie” refers to Jenner’s rebellious style in 2015. In that year, she launched a line of lip kits that evolved into the empire it is today.
Some fans were excited to see Jenner’s most memorable era return, with one writing: “Ah, it’s back again!!!”
However, some criticized the artistic route the “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star took for the visuals.
“The country is boiling over, its people are being dragged away by badge-hungry villain rent-a-cops, and Kylie Jenner cancels a handcuffed hotpants photoshoot to promote cosmetics. This is not satire. This is American corruption,” one outraged Reddit user wrote, referring to ongoing ICE raids across the United States.
Another critic said, “It’s as if she understands what the people she cosplays are going through lol. This is so fucking disgusting. And I never thought about how horribly insane this is until I read the title of this post. That’s exactly what it is.”
A third objector called the ad “absolutely awful.”
Some wondered if Jenner was “trying to recreate the same controversy that[sister]Kendall[Jenner]had with her tone-deaf Pespi ad???”
The infamous commercial in question features Kendall, 29, offering a can of soda to a police officer to quell a confrontation at a protest.
Some pointed to various “no king” protests across the country against what demonstrators feel are President Trump’s authoritarian policies.
“To add to this, does anyone else find it odd that she dropped a shoot titled ‘King Kylie’ with the relevant images mentioned in the OP (original poster) while there are ‘No King’ protests happening across the country?” one observer wondered.
Kylie’s representatives did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
