Fine Cut, a major Korean sales company, has signed multiple international contracts for the domestic hit action comedy “Boss,” which has recorded more than 2.3 million domestic admissions and ranks as the fifth-highest grossing Korean film in 2025.
The gangster-themed comedy has been picked up by distributors in Asia and around the world, including Abnormal Studios in Cambodia, Star Entertainment in the Indian subcontinent, and Clover Film in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. Japan’s KDDI, Mongolia’s Izagur Media and Vietnam’s Khang Media also acquired the film.
In North America, 213 Pictures & Media acquired the rights, with Cai Chang International securing Taiwan. Encore Inflight has acquired in-flight rights. The deal was signed after the film was screened at the Busan International Film Festival’s Korean Cinema Today special premiere section.
“Boss” centers on the ironic power struggle within a gang organization. There, two men are unwilling to assume leadership, and a third man desperately covets the position no one else wants. The ensemble cast includes Cho Woo-jin (Harbin, Hard Hit), Jung Kyung-ho (Men of Plastic, Hospital Playlist), Park Ji-hwan (Roundup series), Lee Kyu-hyun (Prison Playbook), and Lee Sung-min (No Other Choice, Handsome Guys).
The film has already been released in theaters in North America on October 17th, Mongolia on October 24th, Indonesia on November 5th, and Taiwan on November 21st.
Director Ra Hee-chan promoted the film by touring the Hawaii International Film Festival and interacted directly with the audience, increasing the film’s international profile.
The comedy is produced by Hive Media Corp, the production company behind “12.12: The Day,” “Handsome Guys” and “Harbin,” and presented by Hive Media Corp and Mindmark.
