Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan will be taking their children to the UK for the first time in four years, but it is unclear whether King Charles accepted their invitation, although he reportedly offered them accommodation on the royal grounds during their visit.
In July, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will head to the UK to begin preparations for the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham. Harry hosts sporting competitions for military personnel and veterans around the world, and upcoming games will take him to his home country.
As the Duke and Duchess of Sussex return to the UK after a difficult few years, there are questions about how much interaction they will have with the royal family. However, People reports that King Charles has provided royal accommodation for the Sussexes and their two children, Archie and Lilybet.
The couple last joined the royal family in 2022 for Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were spotted at Trooping the Color and St Paul’s Cathedral, but their children were not photographed at the event. Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry also attended Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in September of the same year.
It is not clear whether the Sussexes have accepted the king’s invitation, but they will reportedly be hosted on the royal grounds. According to People, the invitation does not come with any additional security provisions provided by the Interior Ministry. Since moving to California in 2020 and stepping back as working members of the royal family, Prince Harry, Duchess Meghan and their children no longer receive tax-funded police protection. Harry went to court to have the privilege reinstated, as he felt it was dangerous to visit without it, but to no avail. Harry visited Charles alone, but not with his family.
In a statement to the High Court in London, Prince Harry said: “Britain is my home. It is the center of my children’s heritage and a place where I want them to feel as at home as I do now in the US. None of that would be possible without the possibility of keeping my children safe while on British soil.”
He continued, “I can’t put my wife at risk like that, and given my life experiences, I don’t feel comfortable putting myself at risk unnecessarily.”
