Diamonds are truly a girl’s best friend.
Kendall Jenner kicked off Vogue World 2025: Hollywood on Sunday wearing the same crystal-encrusted bodysuit that Nicole Kidman wore as Satine in the 2001 film Moulin Rouge!
The 29-year-old strutted down the Paramount Studios runway in an original “Black Diamond” look designed by Oscar-winning costume designer Katherine Martin for the Baz Luhrmann-directed film.
The eye-catching ensemble featured a black and silver corseted bodysuit and a high-low skirt covered in Swarovski crystals, sequins and fish scale-patterned bugle beads.
The look was styled with fishnet stockings, embellished Mary Jane heels, a crystal-embellished top hat by Rosie Boylan, and diamond drop earrings.
The full-circle moment came after Kidman herself opened just before the show, performing “Put the Blame on Mame” wearing a custom black Chanel satin bustier dress by the French fashion house’s new artistic director, Mathieu Blazy.
Luhrmann, Condé Nast’s global chief creative officer and a longtime favorite of Anna Wintour, Vogue’s global editorial director, was responsible for the creative direction of the event.
Martin and co-designer Angus Strathy won the Academy Award for Best Costume Design for Moulin Rouge!
The black diamond look was first seen in a scene in which Kidman’s Satine descends on a trapeze into a Paris nightclub while singing “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend.”
The bodysuit itself is a piece of exceptional craftsmanship, rich in jewels, including beaded fringe, diamante-edged velvet neckline, and crystal-encrusted straps. Martin posted a behind-the-scenes video of the recreation process on Instagram.
The original costume is currently on display at Swarovski’s Masters of Light — Hollywood exhibit, which runs through November 3 in Los Angeles.
Vogue World: Hollywood celebrates “the rich dialogue between film and fashion,” with 100% of ticket proceeds donated to costume professionals affected by the January 2025 Los Angeles wildfires through the Entertainment Community Fund.
