Katy Perry is causing an uproar online after her 40th birthday cake was destroyed and her backup dancers ate it off the floor.
The pop star celebrated the milestone backstage after wrapping up his ongoing Life Times tour.
Perry, still in her show costume, was filmed blowing out the candles on a large sheet cake surrounded by staff.
She then picked up the cake and tried to throw it at a man in a suit wearing a headset, but the cake fell to the floor.
The singer laughed as several dancers approached the demolished dessert and bent down to take a bite and try it.
“Really confused and upset” User X claimed, perhaps somewhat sarcastically, that her mother had baked the cake, and posted a video criticizing Perry’s actions.
“My mom baked this cake. She was so excited about the opportunity to make it for Katy Perry and spent such a long time on it. I’m really confused and upset as to why she would do this,” user X shared, asking outraged fans to weigh in.
“What kind of thinking does she have to just throw away a whole cake that everyone has eaten and leave the mess on the floor for someone else to clean up because I know she doesn’t have a broom or a mop lol,” one critic responded.
Another person echoed similar sentiments, writing, “The craziest thing is that someone else will take care of it.”
Another netizen said, “I just don’t understand why people throw and shove people in the face. It’s so wasteful 😞,” while a fourth said, “Rourke seemed excited to eat the cake so I feel bad for the crew.”
According to one person, “Katie can’t do anything without getting annoyed.”
However, a few defenders argued that “she paid the money, so she can do whatever she wants with it.”
Another pointed out, “Even if a celebrity receives a cake (from a fan), they sometimes ruin it to avoid possible poisoning. However, any sane person would try to stage it as an accident.”
A representative for Perry did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
