Kate Hudson has revealed that her son Ryder is following in his famous mother’s footsteps and wants to pursue an acting career.
The “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” star shared the exciting news about her Oscar nomination for “Song Song Bleu” in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight.
When ET host Nichelle Turner asked Ryder, 22, if he wanted to be an actor, Hudson, 46, replied, “Oh, yeah.”
“He’s graduating from college this year and I can’t believe it, I’m so excited,” she continued. “I think he’s the first in about three generations to graduate from college.”
Hudson, like her ex-husband Chris Robinson, is a rider and is scheduled to graduate from New York University in May.
Hudson said what she appreciates about her eldest son is that he “wants to do a good job.”
“He’s really focused on college. He’s not trying to get in front of the camera just to get in front of the camera,” she noted.
“Growing up in our family, I think in order to do it, you have to understand the craft and believe in it in a different way,” she continued, referring to her famous family, including her mother, Goldie Hawn.
Hudson also revealed that Ryder’s other interests include designing and making furniture.
“And I thought, ‘Wow, you’re so cool,'” she exclaimed. “And he’s great.”
Hudson is also the mother of son Bingham, 14, with ex-fiancé Matt Bellamy, and son Bingham, 7, with fiancé Danny Fujikawa.
During an appearance on the Not Gonna Lie podcast in March 2025, she said that her children often humble her about her fashion choices. They are especially not fans of her “slightly see-through” clothes.
Hudson said her children told her, “That’s terrible. What are you doing? … Don’t wear that.”
Hudson also came under fire in December from her brother Oliver Hudson, who joked about the “inappropriate” dress she wore to the New York premiere of Song San Bleu.
Oliver posted a photo of his sister in a green Valentino dress with a plunging neckline and a circle drawn on her left breast.
“First of all, I want to say that when I saw my sister’s performance in ‘Songsong Blue,’ I cried every day because I was so proud of her. I was more moved than I expected. (Writing this in tears) But as her older brother, it’s unfair for me to have to see her nipples exposed in such an inappropriate dress,” he said.
“Out of respect for America and parts of Iceland, I never show my body in posts. #shacklethenipple.”
