Like many voracious readers, Judd Apatow may have trouble buying books.
“I love buying books. I like reading more than buying, so I have thousands of books waiting to be read,” he told Page Six, adding, “Don’t worry, I’m going to read them all!”
But accessing all of that might be a problem for the filmmaker, who admits to falling asleep five minutes after reading a book in bed.
“Sometimes I fall asleep just thinking about reading,” Apatow jokes, adding that he loves self-help books.
“People might say I hoard self-help books,” says the director, whose new film “Comedy Nerd” was released on Tuesday. “I always hope that I will find something that will allow me to let go of all my anxiety and emotional baggage.
“Normally I just worry that I can’t remember all the advice that was supposed to help me heal, which leads to more anxiety and public confusion.”
See below for six must-read books recommended by Apatow.

“The best book ever written about the comedy and stand-up experience.”

“It’s a self-help book that you should read every day to stay sane, but I usually read a little bit every 17 days.”

“This brand new memoir about Cameron Crowe’s years as a ridiculously young music journalist is a godsend. It’s about everything I find fascinating: family, journalism, growing up, and rock.”

“This novel touched my heart and is a novel that everyone should read.”

“A great book for aspiring filmmakers.”

“This is my memoir in scrapbook form. It’s basically photos, essays, memorabilia, and stories from my career and comedy obsession. I’m recommending this because all proceeds will go to Fire Aid to help victims of the Pacific Palisades and Altadena fires and 826 Centers, which provide free tutoring and literacy programs to children.”
