Zhou Yi claimed on Saturday that he had reached an agreement in the wake of Jeremy Renner’s bombshell comments, but his lawyer quickly denied the claim.
Chou, who is set to direct the documentary Chronicles of Disney starring Renner, has accused Chou of allegedly “sending personal and intimate photos of himself,” but told TMZ on Saturday that the two had “reached a peaceful and mutually respectful resolution” to the conflict.
According to the media, Chou also said that the two will move forward with joint projects “Stardust Future” and “Chronicles of Disney.”
Mr. Chou reportedly gave a nod to Mr. Renner’s lawyer, Marty Singer, who claims he led the negotiations.
“Thank you to everyone who supported a positive outcome and embraced our positive and supportive path,” Zhou told TMZ.
“This resolution ensures that all parties remain focused on storytelling, creativity, and meaningful work that uplifts audiences around the world.”
However, the singer quickly hit back with a statement of her own to TMZ.
“No agreement was reached with Zhou Yi to resolve the multi-million dollar claims my client Jeremy Renner had against her,” the lawyer told the outlet.
He continued, “I don’t understand why Zhou Yi would fabricate a story that there was a deal, even though he was told there was no deal, including casting Jeremy Renner in the animated film, who only agreed to appear in the documentary.”
Chou also asserted the agreement via Instagram on Saturday.
“To Mr. Singer, @creativeartistsagency, my team, agents, managers, legal team, and most of all my advisor Brian Sun, I am happy to announce that we have reached a peaceful resolution. We will continue our release and FYC campaign for @chroniclesofdisneyofficial and @stardustfuturemovie starring Jeremy Renner and other talent,” she wrote.
“Thank you to everyone for having a positive outlook for the future and accepting a peaceful resolution.”
Page Six has reached out to Renner’s representatives for further comment.
Earlier this month, Renner’s film production partner accused the Avengers: Endgame actor of threatening to “call ICE” and sending him “intimate” photos.
“Mr. Renner first contacted me directly in June and sent me intimate and personal photos of himself, behavior that he had previously displayed according to public reports,” she said. I wrote this via Instagram on November 3rd.
“He convinced me of his sincerity by saying he had been single for a long time and was open to a long-term relationship. I believed in him, in the power of love and the possibility of salvation.”
She also claimed that the actor “had a written contract” with her and her production company, but has since denied any involvement with her, both professionally and personally, and has allegedly “refused” to promote joint projects on social media.
Mr. Chou then shared explicit WhatsApp messages with the Daily Mail that he claimed were sent by Mr. Renner.
The actor immediately denied Mr. Chou’s explanation. “The allegations being made are completely inaccurate and untrue,” Renner’s representative told Page Six on November 7.
Renner’s lawyer, Singer, claimed that Chou was retaliating after Renner “rejected romantic advances” and failed to promote her film on his social media accounts.
The lawyer said Mr. Chou and Mr. Renner met in Reno, Nevada over the summer when Mr. Chou interviewed Mr. Renner for a documentary and had what Mr. Renner described as a “brief consensual encounter.”
Singer said the Marvel actor had not been in contact with Chou for more than a month and dismissed the allegations. “A sexual message expressing her love” from her.
He also said that the filmmakers are probably “Relentlessly harassed and threatened (his) client with hundreds of unsolicited messages.”
The actor then attacked Ms. Chou in a cease and desist letter obtained by Page Six on November 8, labeling her claims “false, fabricated and vile lies,” and accusing her of pursuing her with inappropriate messages and photos.
The actor claimed they ended their brief fling after she visited him in August, but in an effort to keep the relationship going, she claimed she sent him hundreds of text messages after he dropped her off at the airport.
Some of it was explicit, Renner claimed. Mr. Renner also accused Mr. Chou of threatening to cause “public harm” and “falsely appear” that the two were in a romantic relationship if he did not promote the documentary.
Back in September, Chou hinted that she was meeting Renner by posting images on social media of the two driving around Reno, Nevada.
In October, Chou claimed to the Daily Mail that she had “found new love” with Renner, whose life was threatened in a 2023 snowplow accident. “We were in a relationship,” she told the outlet last month.
