Jamie Lynn Spears gave her eldest daughter a controversial Christmas present this year.
On Thursday, the 34-year-old actress gifted Maddie an ATV, nearly 10 years after the 17-year-old nearly died in an ATV accident.
A brand new red Honda FourTrax Rancher 4×4 was featured in an Instagram carousel containing photos and videos from the family celebration.
One slide showed a close-up shot of the front of the vehicle, which was decorated with a large red ribbon and a celebratory sign that read “Muddy!”
Later in the roundup, Maddie was photographed smiling and sitting on a present, with her seven-year-old half-sister Ivy sitting behind her.
“Merry Christmas ✝️🤶🏻🎀🎄🎁,” her mother captioned the post.
Maddie commented, “You did a great job,” to which Spears responded, “You can’t win here.” The context is unclear.
The teenager famously survived a near-fatal accident in February 2017 when he was just eight years old.
At the time, she was reportedly riding a Polaris ATV in her home state of Louisiana when she overcorrected to avoid a ditch, causing the vehicle to flip over and into a pond.
Despite efforts by Spears and her husband Jamie Watson to rescue her, Maddie remained unconscious under the car for a long time.
She was eventually rescued by paramedics, but remained in critical condition when she was airlifted to a hospital and placed on a ventilator.
Maddie was discharged from the hospital a few days later and made a full recovery.
She first addressed the terrifying “accident” in August, explaining simply, “I was in a coma, but I came back to life. I’m so blessed.”
The University of Southern Mississippi student described herself as “very accident-prone” and said her parents were “amazing.”
“They didn’t do anything to me,” she claimed.
