Blue Finch Films has acquired worldwide sales rights to Indonesia’s action-crime thriller “Queen of Malacca,” excluding some Southeast Asian regions.

The UK-based organization announced the acquisition ahead of the Cannes Film Market, where the Bicinema Pictures production will debut its first footage at the Frontière Buyers Showcase. The project was first revealed by Variety magazine at the 2025 Cannes Film Market.

A selection of Frontier Platforms, the film follows the journey of Rafa, a woman who moves through a world built on ritual and violence and transforms into a powerful figure. Characters from the “Ratu Malaka” universe were unveiled to the public at the Jogja Netpac Asian Film Festival 2025, garnering great interest from industry players and audiences.

Anga Dwimas Sasonko, internationally known for his work on Stealing Raden Saleh and 13 Bombs, is directing from a script he co-wrote with Irfan Ramli. The film is produced by Sasonko and Cori Adianin, with Michael Reinhart and Janice Angelica serving as co-producers.

The cast stars Claresta Taufan, Dion Wiyoko, Ganindra Bimo, and Faris Fajjar, with supporting roles by Jihane Almira, Lutesha, Uhlan Gritno, and Marcela Zarianti. The fight choreography will be by Zhang Manchin, along with Indonesian martial artist Reza Hillman.

“‘The Queen of Malacca’ is a riveting crime epic told through the bold lens of a Southeast Asian woman. Survival requires reinvention, and power comes with brutal and irreversible costs,” Sasonko said.

“We were captivated by the concept and filmmaking power of The Queen of Malacca, a martial arts epic that marries thrilling martial arts action, brutal violence and the occult. We can’t wait for a wide audience to witness the bone-crunching, shocking world of action created by director Angga Dwimas Sasonko,” added Mike Chapman of Blue Finch Films.

Blue Finch’s current work includes Rotterdam title “Bowels of Hell,” SXSW selections “American Dollhouse” and “Imposters,” and Tribeca pick “Recluse” from Oscar-winning production company RT Features.
