“Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood” alum Masika Kalysha’s estranged husband, Jamar Champ, died Tuesday in a wrong-way car accident in Texas.
Houston police say a 38-year-old man was driving a silver Tesla Cybertruck on Interstate 10 just after midnight when he was struck head-on by a silver BMW traveling the wrong way.
Champ’s car then collided with an 18-wheeler, and the BMW, which was traveling westbound in the eastbound lane, burst into flames.
The Champ Academy founder was in critical condition when he was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the BMW was also killed in the collision, but his identity has not yet been released.
Champ is survived by his and Karisha’s 3-year-old daughter, Amari.
When the former couple tied the knot in 2021, Champ also became stepfather to reality star daughter Cali, 9, and rapper Fetty Wap.
Champ and Karisha will separate in 2023.
The actress tweeted on Tuesday about receiving “the worst (sic) news of (her) life,” hinting that her estranged partner had passed away.
“God woke me up at 2am…I couldn’t sleep. I didn’t know why. Jesus…please pray for me and my children,” she wrote.
In a tearful Instagram video, the “Growing Up Hip Hop: Atlanta” alum wrote that he was “in a state of confusion” and asked news outlets to “hold back from posting information.”
“Rumors spread quickly to kids. My kids don’t use social media, but a lot of their friends and a lot of their parents do, and I don’t want them to know at school before I tell them,” she explained.
Kalisha did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
The singer and Champ became romantically involved in 2020, a few years after Kalysha split from Fetty Wap.
In 2024, Karisha admitted in a red carpet interview that she was “soon to be in mediation with her ex-husband,” but it was a “vicious” process.
