Helena Bonham Carter checks out ‘The White Lotus’.
Nine days after production on season four of the hit HBO drama began in France, the Corpse Bride actress has left the cast.
“While filming for Season 4 of ‘The White Lotus’ was just underway, it became clear that the character Mike White created for Helena Bonham Carter never matched on set,” an HBO spokesperson said in a statement to Page Six on Saturday. “The role has since been reconsidered and rewritten and will be recast in the coming weeks.”
“While HBO and producer Mike White are saddened to no longer be able to work with her, they remain passionate fans and are eager to work with the legendary actress on another project soon,” the rep added.
Carter, 59, known for his roles in “Fight Club” (1999), “Corpse Bride” (2005), “Sweeney Todd” (2007) and the “Harry Potter” movies, has not yet announced his departure.
Deadline first reported the news.
Page Six has reached out to the actress for comment.
The next season of “The White Lotus” will take place at a luxury resort in France during the Cannes Film Festival, according to the show’s official press release.
The star-studded cast includes Rosie Perez, Max Greenfield, Kumail Nanjiani, Chloe Bennet, Heather Graham, Steve Coogan, AJ Michalka, and Sandra Bernhardt.
Meanwhile, Michalka recently spoke about White’s “rapid process” of casting the character.
“I think Mike knows it as soon as he sees it,” she said on the “Just Trish” podcast in March. “Looks like this guy is right. He’s very smart.”
That same month, Bernhardt spoke of his excitement about joining the series. News: “Why did I beg Mike White, my friend for 25 years, ‘When are you going to write me a star role? Mike, what do I have to do?'”
The comedian, a longtime friend of the writer, said, “He loves me. We love each other. And he finally said, ‘This is the limit, this is the season.'” Now is the time, and now is the right time. ”
Season 1 of “The White Lotus” was filmed in Hawaii, season 2 was filmed in Sicily, and season 3 was filmed in Thailand.
And season 3 star Jason Isaacs can’t wait for the new cast to experience the ride.
“I have friends who are going to be in it,” he told Entertainment Tonight in January. “They’re going to have the best experience of their lives.”
“There aren’t many people who can write and direct as well as Mike White. In fact, there aren’t many,” Isaacs said.
