Hayden Panettiere’s 11-year-old daughter Kaya calls her mother “Britney” after her iconic role, it was revealed on “CBS Morning” on Monday.
The first time her preteen girlfriend did it, “it took[Panettiere]a second” to realize that Kaya was referring to “Bring It On” character Brittney Allen.
“I noticed she was talking about ‘Bring It On’ because her friend is a fan of ‘Bring It On,'” the 36-year-old “Nashville” alum told Gayle King.
“I was like, ‘Oh my God!'” Panettiere recalled, before Kaya revealed that she now wants to “Zoom with friends.”
The Golden Globe nominee quipped, “It’s cool now!”
Panettiere shared this anecdote while describing his “amazing relationship” with Kaya, who lives in Ukraine with her father and Panettiere’s ex-fiancée Wladimir Klitschko.
“I’ll fly there as long as I can,” the “Heroes” alum declared. “I FaceTime her all the time. She’s 11 now, but she calls her mom more and more.”
Last week, Panettiere clapped back at rumors that she had “abandoned” her young child during an emotional episode of Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast.
Panettiere relinquished custody of Kaya in 2018.
The former soap star insisted that the narrative of “just giving up[your]child and being okay with it” is heartbreaking and “couldn’t be further from the truth.”
Panettiere said Kaya’s move to Ukraine was an “incredibly difficult” experience and that she “didn’t get a good response.”
“I was like a mother lion, willing to burn down the world for my children,” she recalled.
But the Ice Princess star was in a “terrible cycle” at the time, “battling depression, anxiety, alcoholism and drug abuse” – and by the time her mother was “finally healthy” Kaya was living a “beautiful life” abroad.
Panettiere explained, “I felt it was unfair and selfish to try to take her away from this life that she has created. … I know in my heart that she feels supported. I have a great relationship with her.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Panettiere also talked about other vulnerable topics in her memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning, including how she was forced to “take off her clothes” and get into bed with a “very famous” man when she was 18.
The “Scream” star’s book, which goes on sale Tuesday, includes other headline-making revelations, from her “uncomfortable” age-gap romance with Milo Ventimiglia to her bisexuality.
Her estranged mother, Leslie Vogel, denied the latter, telling Page Six, “There is no historical evidence that this is the case. I think the timing of this coming to light is very interesting.”
