COVID-19 is said to have ended Hank Azaria’s winning streak.
The “Simpsons” star and longtime poker ace recently defeated SOX Entertainment CEO Scott Kundel in the V Foundation’s charity poker tournament and was expected to rematch at Azaria’s annual charity match, All in Four Dreams.
However, the celebrity poker tournament was held at Casa Cipriani, but Azaria was reportedly unable to attend because he contracted the coronavirus.
Officials said Azaria made money by pledging participants to match their support, raising money for free charter schools in New York City’s Harlem and Bronx neighborhoods.
The night featured cocktails, sushi spreads and stand-up by comedian and fellow “Simpsons” actor Matt Friend, who took over as host for the night.
Hospitality industry impresario and poker enthusiast David Rabin called it his favorite event of the year in an Instagram post.
Meanwhile, Koondel was preparing for a do-over with Azaria, who won the quad-seven in the V Foundation’s annual Norm Macdonald Celebrity Poker Match to raise money for cancer research.
The competitive Kounder seemed still upset about the loss, telling Page Six, “I want to get tested for coronavirus.”
As it turned out, Kuunder was out of luck either way. I hear he made it far but got knocked out with the same hand he lost to Azaria a week ago: pocket sixes. Opendoor founder Eric Wu beat him.
Professional poker player Andy Frankenberger was reportedly eliminated early in the match.
Fox Sports host Nick Wright won the night.
