Gayle King has hit back at recent reports claiming she is leaving “CBS Morning.”
The longtime anchor was seen leaving the morning show’s New York City studio on Friday and said the report contradicted what the station had been telling him.
“All I can say is this. From what I’ve been told in this building…all I’ve been told by everyone in this building is, they want me here, they love the work I do, I love the work I do!” King, 70, told TMZ’s questioner.
“I’ll say this: I love this job and the people I work with. So I don’t know what to say to you. I don’t know what to say about it,” she added.
The broadcast journalist reiterated that what she is “hearing in the building” is not what she is “reading in the press.”
“And what I won’t do is negotiate with the media. I won’t do that!” she said as she climbed into a waiting car.
Asked if he had “any ideas of what things would be like if the show were to go in a different direction,” King replied, “I don’t know. I don’t know. All I know is that I’m here. I’m here and I’m happy to be here.”
On Thursday, Variety reported that King, who has been the face of CBS Morning for more than a decade, is expected to step down as the show’s anchor next year.
The newspaper claimed, citing four people familiar with the situation, that she could be moved to another role in the news department.
In response to the report, a CBS News spokesperson said in a statement: “We have not had any discussions with Gale regarding his contract through May 2026.”
A spokesperson called her “a truly valuable asset to CBS” and insisted the network “looks forward to engaging with her about the future.”
Representatives for King and CBS did not immediately respond to Page Six’s requests for comment.
