Anna Gomez, the only Democrat currently serving as a member of the FCC, spoke in support of Disney’s decision to resume production with “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”
“I’m happy to see Disney find that courage in the face of clear government threats,” she said in a statement. “More importantly, I would like to thank Americans from the entire ideological spectrum for speaking out loud and bravely against this blatant attempt to silence freedom of speech. It is our responsibility as citizens to oppose this administration’s growing campaign of censorship and domination.”
“This FCC has to fight against these efforts to curb free expression as it considers steps that will allow for the same multi-billion dollar media conglomerate that will result in even greater pressure on the government,” Gomez’s statement continued. “I will continue to fight and make sure local broadcasters have the independence to confront the threat of government.”
Gomez’s statement will be carried out in contrast to the position of Brendanker, the chairman designated by FCC Donald Trump. On September 17th, a monologue on the podcast that “Magagang” was trying to portray Charlie Kirk’s assassin as “something other than one of them,” said the podcast, “We can do this in an easy or difficult way. These companies can find ways to change their behavior. A few hours later, Nexstar pulled “Jimmy Kimmel Live” from the ABC affiliate station. The network then stopped production at a late-night show.
As Gomez pointed out, Kimmel’s suspension was protested by people from a variety of political backgrounds. In addition to the broad support of Hollywood’s Kimmel and the left side, Republican politicians, including Ted Cruz and Rand Paul, have publicly opposed Carr’s approach to the issue (both criticised Kimmel’s comments about Kirk and criticised the right to disciplinary Disney’s rights).
