Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Halloween shark costume is an ironic nod to his new girlfriend Katy Perry, fans on social media are speculating.
The former Canadian prime minister took to social media on Friday to show off his blue shark costume, opposite his youngest son Hadrian, 11, who was dressed as an injured surfer.
“Ready for Halloween with Hadrian. He’s the surfer and I’m the shark (on his left),” Trudeau captioned the Instagram upload.
“We made a costume together. A little father-son Halloween teamwork. 🎃🦈🏄♂️,” he added.
Fans quickly noticed the similarities between Trudeau’s inflatable shark and Perry’s “Left Shark,” a backup dancer who made headlines during his halftime performance at Super Bowl XLIX in 2015.
At the time, Perry’s dancers became an internet sensation for allegedly making up their own dance moves on the spot during a performance of “Teenage Dream.”
“To his left 👏👏👏,” one follower quipped, while another wrote: “I’ll dress up as Katy Perry so you and I can pretend we’re together!”
Another said: “Everyone knows that shark costume,” while a fourth asked: “Did you borrow the Left Shark costume?”
Rumors of a romance first sparked in July when Perry, 41, and the politician were photographed chatting and taking a walk near Montreal’s Mount Royal Park, before having a romantic dinner at Le Violon restaurant in the Canadian city.
Later, Trudeau was seen watching a show at Perry’s “Life Times” tour stop at the Bell Center in Montreal.
Rumors of a relationship intensified in October after photos surfaced of Mr. Perry and Mr. Trudeau making out on a yacht, with Mr. Perry rocking a swimsuit and Mr. Trudeau shirtless in a steamy moment.
Last week, on the ‘Firework’ hitmaker’s 41st birthday, the pair finally made their romance public, holding hands as they arrived at a cabaret show at Paris’ Crazy Horse.
Perry turned heads in a red dress for the occasion, while Trudeau opted for a monochrome black suit ensemble.
Sources told Page Six last month that the former prime minister was crazy for the “Roar” singer.
“He’s crazy about her and thinks she’s the perfect woman,” a source told Page Six. “They relate to everything: politics, kids, French food.”
A source added, “They both have a sparkle in each other.”
Perry has a 5-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove, with ex-fiancé Orlando Bloom. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Trudeau is father to children Xavier, 18, Ella-Grace, 16, and Hadrian, with his estranged wife Sophie Grégoire Trudeau.
