‘Wednesday’ has found its Aunt Ophelia as Eva Green joins the Netflix dark comedy as a season 3 regular.
The character was hinted at in the final moments of the season 2 finale, when the back of Ophelia’s head is shown. The casting of Green (Casino Royale) puts to rest fan speculation that Lady Gaga’s Rosalyn Rotwood could be Ophelia.
Ophelia Frump is the younger sister of Morticia Addams, played by Catherine Zeta-Jones. She was raped by Willow Hill by her mother, Hester Frump (Joanna Lumley), before escaping from a mental hospital. At the end of season 2, Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) reads Ophelia’s diary given to her by Morticia and sees a vision of a woman with long blonde hair and a flower crown. The vision fades to black as it is revealed that Ophelia is being held in solitary confinement in Hester’s mansion, where she is wearing a red dress and writing “Wednesday Must Die” in blood on the wall.
“I’m thrilled to be joining Wednesday’s deeply twisted world as Aunt Ophelia,” Green said in a statement. “This show is such a deliciously dark and witty world, and I can’t wait to bring my own cuckoo-ness to the Addams family.”
“Wednesday” is one of Netflix’s biggest hits ever, with season 1 ranking No. 1 on the global TV charts. The show, based on the characters created by Charles Addams, also stars Emma Myers, Hunter Doohan, Joy Sunday, Moussa Mostafa, Georgie Farmer, Isaac Ordonez, Billie Piper, Luyanda Unati Ruiz-Nyawo, Victor Dorobantu, Evie Templeton, Luis Guzman and Fred Armisen.
Green representatives are UTA and Chalcot Square.
