Jacob Elordi has slammed a Japanese fan who got too close to the actor to take a selfie.
Videos of the fan encounters have been shared on social media platforms, showing the “Euphoria” star getting excited with fans outside on a busy street earlier this week.
“What’s up, manager?” a fan greeted the 28-year-old outside the restaurant, putting his arm on Elordi’s back.
“Don’t touch me, brother,” I heard Elordi reply.
The fan later posted footage of the encounter on his Instagram with the caption: “I just wanted a photo guy,” along with a sad-face emoji, revealing he was Otavio Bittencourt.
The video went viral on the internet and sparked a debate. While some fans defended Elordi’s right to privacy and personal boundaries, others felt his snappy response was unnecessary.
“Fans are probably just excited,” one social media user wrote, while another added, “I understand the boundaries, but the reaction felt a little cold.”
Supporters of the “Frankenstein” star, who is currently vacationing in Japan with new girlfriend Kendall Jenner, were equally vocal.
“It’s not Jacob’s fault, it’s an indirect embarrassment. Why would you touch people on the street when they didn’t ask for it?” one person wondered online, while another commented: “I totally agree. Jacob had every right to react the way he did. Touching others is not without intention!! If you want a photo, just ask! Jacob was aware of your presence. So why would he touch you?? I wonder if he wanted to touch you!!”
A third person raged: “Why would you touch him? Stop touching random people who do horrible things. Why do people think this is okay? He should have patience. There are too many people in his space.”
Elordi is known for valuing her personal space when in public. Back in December, he even had a tense exchange with a photographer as he passed through Gare du Nord.
“Jacob, we love you,” a cameraman can be heard saying to the actor, who was flanked by security at the time.
Then Elordi took off one of her earphones and said, “You’ve made my life really difficult.”
After the photographer repeated, “We love you,” the Australian star replied, “I don’t love you,” adding, “You make life really hard for me.”
Two months before that exchange, he had a violent confrontation with an official on the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival.
A video went viral showing Elordi interacting with fans before officials showed up and tried to rush him.
“I’m going to take a picture here,” the defiant “Saltburn” actor told festival staff while taking a selfie with a fan.
As she signed autographs and posed for more photos, Elordi again told the officials sternly: “Don’t ever tell me what to do.”
