With the untimely passing of Diane Keaton on October 11th at the age of 79, we lost a legend of stage, screen, and style.
A timeless fashion icon, the late Oscar winner was unapologetically himself, with a penchant for men’s wear staples: belted waists, brimmed hats, turtlenecks, chunky ankle boots, and a strict black-and-white color palette.
Meryl Streep honored Keaton with the 2017 American Film Institute Lifetime Achievement Award, calling her friend “probably the most hidden figure in the history of clothing” but “transparent” when it comes to her character and acting.
Keaton never hired a stylist and approached everything from walking her dog in Brentwood, California to red carpets at awards shows from the same fashion perspective.

The actress was one of the few whose personal style was able to influence her on-screen persona. And that’s not surprising considering Woody Allen asked her to wear an “Annie Hall” costume.
From styling borrowed from the boys in Hall, to Erica Barry’s turtlenecks in Something’s Gotta Give to Sybil Stone’s belted full skirts in The Family Stone, Keaton and her characters’ closets have been transformed into one.
It’s impossible to sum up the legend’s iconic style in one slideshow, but scroll below to see some of Diane Keaton’s most beloved looks.
