Stranger Things star David Harbor is the latest addition to the cast of the series’ origin story, John Rambo. Variety has confirmed that Harbour will play Rambo’s commander, Major Trautman, in the film directed by Jalmari Helander (The Sith).
Noah Centineo plays John Rambo, a one-man fighting force. The story of “John Rambo” predates 1982’s “First Blood,” the Sylvester Stallone film that started the popular Rambo series. John Rambo’s character was a Vietnam veteran and Special Forces soldier who was the last surviving member of his unit. Though traumatized by his experience in Vietnam, he acquired military skills that he used to fight corrupt police and drug cartels.
Production of “John Rambo” has ended in Thailand. Also starring are Yao (Sinners), Jason Tobin (A Thousand Blows), Quincy Isaiah (Winning Time), Jefferson White (Yellowstone), and Tammy Tuptimthong (The White Lotus).
A two-time Emmy nominee, Harbor currently stars as Floyd Smarnich on St. Louis and has recently appeared in Stranger Things and Thunderbolts. He has a big year ahead with Avengers: Doomsday in December, as well as Violent Knight 2 and Evil Genius, and is also working on Lionsgate’s A Head Full of Ghosts.
Rory Haines and Saurabh Noshirvani wrote the screenplay for John Rambo, and Lionsgate, Millennium Media, Templeton Media and AGBO will produce and Lionsgate will distribute.
Producers are Kevin King Templeton of Templeton Media, Les Weldon and Jonathan Younger of Millennium Media, and Angela Russo-Otstot and Michael Disco of AGBO. In addition to Stallone, executive producers include Anthony and Joe Russo, Trevor Short, and Bonfire Legend’s Dallas Sonnier and Amanda Presmic. The film is produced by Lionsgate, Millennium Media, Templeton Media and AGBO and distributed by Lionsgate.
Harbor is repped by WME and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.
