Billie Lourd has paid emotional tribute to her mother, Carrie Fisher, on the ninth anniversary of her death.
“It’s been nine years since my mother passed away,” Lard captioned a throwback photo of the Star Wars actress and Billy’s father, Brian Lard, who passed away on December 27, 2016.
The “American Horror Story” actress then spoke about the happy moments she shared with her daughter Jackson, 3, and how she “started thinking about how this joy would not be possible without my mom.”
“This joy exists only because of her,” Billy, 33, wrote. He went on to say that his mother “is not physically a part of this joy, but she is also part of the reason for that joy” and that Fisher “continues to live through this joy.”
“My grief takes many forms. Today, in this moment, it is this joy of being with my father and watching over my children,” Lard shared in the post, which included a photo of Jackson and her sons Kingston, 5, and Brian.
“Grief is never a one-time thing, so it can and will morph many times throughout this day. But right now, I’m enjoying the joy of this bittersweet sadness.”
“As my mother wisely said, ‘Nothing is really over, it’s just there,'” the “Last Showgirl” actress wrote.
“Mom’s life isn’t really over. It’s just there. I’m able to experience this joy in my children and because of you. Thank you, Mom. I miss you forever.”
Billy concluded his post by saying that the two photos – one with Brian, Billy and Fisher, and one with Brian and Billy’s two children – were “taken in the same room 25 years apart ❤️”.
Fisher, the daughter of screen icons Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher, died in Los Angeles in 2016 after suffering cardiac arrest and being in a coma for several days. She was 60 years old.
Mr Reynolds shockingly passed away at the age of 84 on December 28, 2016, a day after Mr Fisher suffered a stroke.
A subsequent autopsy revealed that Fisher had cocaine and trace amounts of heroin, MDMA and other opiates in her system when she died. In a 2017 interview with People magazine, Billie candidly said that her mother “struggled with drug addiction and mental illness throughout her life.”
“In all of her work, she was intentionally open about the social stigma surrounding these illnesses,” Laard explained, adding that her mother “ultimately died from this disease.”
The “Scream Queens” star welcomed son Kingston with Austin Rydell in 2020, and they married in March 2022. Daughter Jackson was born in December 2022.
Billie previously revealed that she cried “tears of joy” as she held Jackson, then 1, in memory of her mother on the seventh anniversary of her death in 2023.
“My mother’s presence felt like the warmth of the sun on my skin on a hot summer day,” she wrote.
