Woody, Buzz and the Toy Story gang return in the first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5, the fifth film in Pixar’s iconic series, set for release on June 19, 2026.
In the trailer, the toys meet Lilypad. “A high-tech frog-shaped smart tablet makes Buzz, Woody, Jesse, and the rest of the gang’s job exponentially more difficult as they face a new threat threatening their playtime,” the press release teases. Greta Lee has joined the cast to voice a new high-tech toy.
Voice actors Tom Hanks and Tim Allen return as Woody and Buzz, respectively, and co-stars include Joan Cusack as Jesse, Blake Clark as Slinky Dog, and Tony Hale as Forky. Conan O’Brien joins the franchise as Smarty Pants, a new character in the series. Andrew Stanton, director of Finding Nemo, Wall-E, and Finding Dory, will direct. Stanton has co-written all four Toy Story films to date, and is credited as the sole screenwriter for Toy Story 5.
The first Toy Story, released in 1995, set a groundbreaking precedent as the first full-length computer-animated film. Disney distributed the film and its 1999 sequel before acquiring Pixar in 2006. The series was revived 11 years later with Toy Story 3 in 2010 and Toy Story 4 in 2019, both of which grossed over $1 billion worldwide and won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in each year.
Toy Story 5 is Pixar’s 31st feature film. The studio’s latest film, Elio, was released on June 20th and grossed just $152 million at the worldwide box office. However, Pixar’s previous film Inside Head 2 grossed more than $1.5 billion, making it the highest-grossing movie of 2024. Between now and Toy Story 5, Pixar also plans to release an original film, Hoppers, in March 2026.
Overall, while Pixar’s box office has had its share of ups and downs in recent years, its sequels seem to be performing more consistently. Considering “Toy Story” is the company’s longest-running and most profitable series, there may be reason for optimism.
