Britney Spears was arrested for drunk driving on Wednesday, Page Six confirmed.
The “Oops! I Did It Again” singer, 44, was handcuffed by California Highway Patrol troopers in Ventura County around 9:28 p.m. local time.
She was arrested at 3:02 a.m. and finally released at 6:07 a.m. Thursday, according to Ventura County Sheriff’s inmate records. TMZ first reported the news.
A trial date is scheduled for May 4.
After her arrest, Spears deleted her Instagram profile.
When asked for comment, her representative, Cade Hudson, said, “This was a totally unacceptable and unfortunate incident. Britney intends to take the right steps and abide by the law. We hope this is the first step in the long-awaited changes that are to occur in Britney’s life. We hope she gets the help and support she needs during this difficult time.”
Referring to her sons Sean Preston and Jayden James, he added, “Her sons will be spending time with her. Her loved ones will come up with the necessary plans that were overdue to set her up to succeed for happiness.”
Her arrest came months after she was seen driving erratically after a night out with friends.
In October 2025, the Daily Mail obtained video of the Toxic songstress leaving the Red O restaurant in Thousand Oaks and getting into the driver’s seat of a black BMW after several people allegedly tried to stop her.
One witness told the newspaper that he “almost hit my friend when I pulled out of the car” from the parking lot.
Later, on his way to his Thousand Oaks mansion, he was seen swerving between lanes of traffic, rear-ending a car, and swerving into a bike lane.
Shortly after the video was released, Spears claimed on social media that it was not her but a “lookalike” who was driving the car.
The manager of the restaurant where Spears was eating defended Spears and denied rumors that she was driving erratically because of alcohol.
“She was very calm and really sweet,” Oliver Wynn told Us Weekly at the time. “She just hung out, took a bite and left.”
She also said that a fan bought her a glass of wine, but she didn’t order alcohol with the quesadilla because she was “not drunk.”
By November, the “Woman in Me” author was seen leaving another restaurant with a champagne flute in hand, but never behind the wheel.
In 2006, Spears worried fans when she was spotted driving with her then-4-month-old son, Sean Preston, on her lap instead of in a car seat.
She later apologized for her actions, saying it was a “mistake” caused by fear of the paparazzi, who were allegedly “physically aggressive”. Authorities did not pursue any charges at the time.
A year later, she was charged with hit-and-run and driving without a license and sentenced to six months in prison. The case was later dismissed after she reached an undisclosed settlement with the car’s owner.
Then, in 2023, she was pulled over and given two violations. One is that he did not have a valid driver’s license, and the other was that he did not provide proof of insurance to the officer.
