Although she ultimately did not win and was runner-up in the show’s third season, her debut album, “I Dreamed a Dream,” became the best-selling international album of that year.

Boyle will re-enter the singing contest in June 2023, performing the song made famous by the West End cast of Les Misérables, and also revealing that she suffered a stroke a year ago that left her unable to speak or sing.

“Tonight was even more special for me because I suffered a stroke in April of 2022,” she wrote on Instagram after her performance. “Over the past year, I have worked hard to get back to speaking and singing with the sole goal of being able to sing on stage again. And tonight, my hard work and perseverance paid off as I sang the song that started it all, ‘I Dreamed A Dream.’
