Brandi Glanville got a clove of garlic stuck in her ear after seeking medical advice online.
On Friday’s episode of her podcast, “Brandi Glanville Unfiltered,” the Bravo alum explained that her son Jake, 18, had a cold, so after researching the internet, she used garlic to cure a stuffy nose, which became a viral trend on TikTok.
“I didn’t do anything on Easter day because I had garlic in my ear,” she said. “I was trying to get it out.”
Granville continued: “It got worse and the next day I had to go to the emergency room to have it removed.”
The 53-year-old reality star recalled that she was “just trying to clear my sinuses” when she stuck garlic in her ear.
“This is online,” she said of the viral trend she tried to copy, before warning her fans, “Don’t listen to people online, on TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook.”
Glanville also noted that her other son, Mason 21, told him that when he had a cold, putting garlic in his nostrils would relieve stuffy noses.
“I tried the nostrils,” Glanville confessed. “It burned too much, so I put it to my ear.”
She added: “I had just had a laser and it felt like my skin was burning.”
Doctors are advising people not to follow the social media trend of using garlic to treat nasal congestion.
“Don’t do this,” Dr. Madeline Herman, physician president of the Sinus Center and Ear, Nose and Throat Physicians of Houston, told the Post in December.
“Not only is it ineffective, it can actually make symptoms worse,” she added.
Herman explained that shoving raw garlic up your nose comes with real risks that can be painful.
“The active compounds in garlic can cause chemical burns if applied to the skin or mucous membranes,” she warned, adding that leaving objects in the nose for too long can also cause “infections.”
Glanville took on the viral trend after finally solving the long-standing mystery behind her facial paralysis.
In February, she revealed that her facial deformity had been affected for two years due to breast implants and that she had lost several teeth.
The “RHOBH” alum said on her podcast that she underwent an ultrasound and doctors confirmed that the implant in her right breast had ruptured and leaked, and that both of her lymph nodes had silicone in them.
She also revealed that she spent $200,000 investigating the real cause of the disease.
