Bradley Cooper to star Margot Robbie in ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ first part

Bradley Cooper is in talks to star in the first part of Ocean’s Eleven alongside Margot Robbie.

The project is expected to precede Steven Soderbergh’s 2001 heist comedy Ocean’s Eleven, starring George Clooney, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts. The film, about a con man who robs Las Vegas casinos of hundreds of millions of dollars, was a critical and commercial hit, spawning two sequels. Of course, these films are based on 1960’s “Ocean’s Eleven,” which featured five members of Frank Sinatra’s Rat Pack.

Twisters filmmaker Lee Isaac Chung is directing the first part, taking over from Jay Roach, who originally directed the first part. Carrie Solomon is writing the screenplay, and previous reports suggest the film will be set in 1960s Europe. The title has not been finalized yet, but some numbers are likely not available. 2004’s “Ocean’s 12” and 2007’s “Ocean’s 13” were sequels to “Ocean’s 11,” while 2018’s “Ocean’s 8” starred Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, and Rihanna. And Clooney recently said he plans to film Ocean’s 14 with Damon, Pitt and Roberts next year. So no one knows which Roman numerals distinguish Robbie’s and Cooper’s missions.

Cooper’s next theatrical work is the dramatic comedy “Is This Sing On?,” which will have its world premiere Friday at the New York Film Festival. The film, inspired by the life of British comedian John Bishop, stars Will Arnett and Laura Dern and is Cooper’s third directorial effort after A Star Is Born and The Maestro. In front of the camera, he is best known for his roles in The Hangover, Unique Playbook, American Hustle, and American Sniper.
