Sometimes it’s better not to say it.
Bill Maher cheekily admitted that he masturbated before taping his 1990s late-night talk show Politically Incorrect.
“I was told I masturbated in my dressing room before the show,” he recalled a Newsstand magazine headline that made light of the pre-show ritual on Monday’s episode of the “Club Random” podcast.
When actress Cheryl Hines questioned the headline, Maher, 69, bluntly replied, “Because that’s what happened to me. Not often.”
The comedian continued, “Here’s the thing. This is the ’90s. So we were recording every day, three days a week. You know, it was a daily show.”
“I was like a wild person back then, going out at night,” he said, adding, “Sometimes I would arrive on set hungover.”
Reflecting on his comments, Maher claimed he was not “hungover” but was sleep-deprived after staying out late “drinking and clubbing”.
“I could always take a nap if I jerked off first,” he said. “And I think I forgot to remove the jargen (lotion) from the bathroom area one time.”
The political commentator suspected that someone had seen the lotion in the bottle and reported it to the press.
Politically Incorrect aired for eight seasons from July 1993 to July 2002.
In 2003, Maher started the long-running HBO series “Real Time with Bill Maher,” but it’s unclear whether he continues his pre-show routine.
The talk show host’s latest admission comes after he was photographed leaving Bass J. Morgan and Michael Brown’s annual Halloween party with Noor Al Farah, 31.
Maher and Alfalah, who has son Roman, 2, with actor Al Pacino, looked in good spirits as they hopped into a car outside the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles.
The pair’s latest sighting comes after Alfalah denied dating Maher after they appeared at the same hotel last October.
At the time, she stopped and told TMZ’s paparazzi that she and Maher were “just friends” and called Pacino her “best friend.”
