The cast of writer/director Joseph Sperber’s political murder mystery film Behind Closed Doors has been announced as production begins in Los Angeles.
Elijah Reed (Doom Patrol), Nick Samson (The Poser), Melissa Als (Matlock), Christian Haynes (Law & Order), and Charel Mack (The Pit) are set to star. This will be Sperber’s feature debut, following the live-action short film Let Us Play, starring Doug Jones, which was officially selected at the LA Shorts International Film Festival.
“Behind Closed Doors” will be produced by BT Studios’ Galileo Mondol (“Pretty Problems”) and Carlos Lopez (“Overtime Hustle”), along with Tooley Entertainment’s former chief of staff Aaron Schmidt (“Arthur the King”). Martin Taub (Holy Cowboys) is the cinematographer.
According to the official login, “In the fall of 1979, an injured federal agent (Haynes) collapses into the apartment of his reclusive neighbor (Samson), and an ordinary night turns into a nightmarish standoff where secrets are exposed, loyalties are blurred, and no one can claim who is who.”
“I’m thrilled to be able to tell this timely political story set in Washington that explores truth and paranoia against the backdrop of the Cold War,” Sperber said in a statement. “What’s particularly interesting to me from a suspense and cinematic standpoint is the idea of showing a movie in real time, immersing the audience in events that unfold in a single location over the course of one night.”
“We were immediately drawn to Joseph’s political thriller because of the challenge it posed to us as producers,” Mondre and Schmidt added in a statement. “With a story set in a single location, there are no gimmicks to hide behind. Every performance, creative decision, and technical element has to carry its weight. We knew this would test everyone involved, and that was a big part of why we were excited to embark on this journey with Joseph, shoot the film in Los Angeles, and work with the wealth of talent this city has to offer.”
Reed is represented by AEFH and managed by Han Talent Group. Samson is represented by Brian Twohig of Roger Paul Inc. Alce is repped by NOVA Talent Group and Love Talent. Mr. Haynes is represented by 5J Management. Mack is repped by 11:11 Entertainment and Collier Talent.
