“Saturday Night Live” continues the “Wives Hunt” phenomenon with a second season of the Netflix hit.
In a recorded piece, host Amy Poehler and guest Aubrey Plaza lampooned the streaming sensation and the culture’s response to it. (As Poehler caresses Chloe Feynman, the narrator tells her that People magazine calls “Wives of the Hunt” “the equivalent of ‘Call by Your Name’ for women shopping at Bass Pro Shops.”) Described by “SNL” as “a straight but lesbian and horny Republican murder drama,” the hypothetical second season begins with Poehler (who is slamming Malin Akerman’s role) pulling down her top and proclaiming, “Look, what the hell is this guy?” The cat was dragged away. ”
“SNL” treated “The Hunting Wives” with love, but with a degree of harshness. As Poehler’s hairpiece moves around during her love scene with Feynman, the narrator focuses on “the wig trying its best.” In particular, the scene where Feynman and Poehler draw guns on each other feels sharply drawn.
Plaza, who co-starred with Poehler on “Parks and Recreation,” participated in the sketch as a newcomer to the hunting wives who immigrated from California. True to form, the Hunting Wives flirt with her excessively, but in a stinging joke at the end of the sketch, they distance themselves when they learn that she is a lesbian.
According to Netflix’s announcement in September, “The Hunting Wives” will indeed return for a second season.
In a statement about the renewal, creator Rebecca Cutter said, “I’m so excited to be writing these amazing characters again and can’t wait to take audiences on a sexy, twisted, and fucking crazy ride through Maple Brook.”
