Ariana Grande broke down in tears at her Los Angeles concert on Saturday as she thanked her fans for their support following her split from Ethan Slater.
“This is so overwhelming in the most beautiful way ever,” she said during the second show of her Eternal Sunshine Tour at Crypto.com Arena.
“Thank you so much for being so loving,” Grande continued. “Oh my god, I really meant what I said.”
The 32-year-old told the cheering crowd that she had “never experienced a crowd like this in my life” and that their support “means so much to me”.
“You can’t do this to me, you know what I mean, you know what’s going to happen,” she continued. “You know I have cancer. This is bound to happen.”
As the crowd continued to applaud, Grande thanked her fans for being “such a loving and safe presence” in her life “throughout every chapter and all these years.”
“It’s been seven years since I’ve been on stage in front of you, and you’ve been by my side and supporting me,” she said.
“I just feel so grateful,” Grande added. “And wow. Oh my god. Thank you.”
Before continuing to perform, Grande randomly told the audience that this concert was “the first time I’ve ever toured with contact lenses.”
“I’m so happy to meet you and connect with you for the first time in my life,” she said with a straight face. “It’s very powerful.”
Page Six confirmed last week that Grande had split from Slater, 34, after three years of dating.
A source said the “Wicked” co-stars “broke up a few months ago” but “have remained friends ever since.”
“Ariana is truly happy and focused on her next chapter with the Eternal Sunshine tour and the upcoming release of her album Petal,” the source added.
TMZ, which first reported the news, reported that Grande’s new album, scheduled for release on July 31st, was not inspired by her breakup or her relationship with Slater.
Grande and Slater met on the set of Wicked in 2022, when she was married to Dalton Gomez and Lily Jay, respectively.
The “Into You” singer and Gomez, 30, will separate by July 2023 after more than two years of marriage.
That same month, Slater filed for divorce from Jay, with whom she had a young son.
Jay, 33, featured Grande on Page Six after reports of Slater’s romance with the Grammy winner broke.
“[Ariana’s]story, really. It’s not a girl’s girl,” Jay told Us at the time. “My family is just collateral damage.”
However, a source told Page Six Grande and Slater had “done nothing wrong” and claimed that Slater had been separated from his wife for two months before romancing the pop star.
