Rosie O’Donnell has a great love for children.

The actress and comedian is the mother of five children: Parker, Chelsea, Blake, Vivian, and Clay. She welcomed four children with ex-wife Kelly Carpenter and a fifth with her late ex-wife Michelle Lowndes.

In late 2024, O’Donnell’s daughter Chelsea made headlines after multiple arrests related to drug possession. In October 2025, the comedian shared a throwback photo of his daughter on Instagram “before addiction took over my life” and asked his followers for “prayers.”

According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, O’Donnell posted the post after Chelsea had her probation revoked and was sentenced to prison on Oct. 22, with the caption: “I loved her then and I love her now as she faces a terrifying future. Prayers are greatly appreciated.”

Parker Jalen O’Donnell, 30 years old

O’Donnell adopted her first child, Parker O’Donnell, in 1995. He was born on May 25, 1995. The comedian was initially a single mother to Parker, but later Carpenter also became her legal parent.

Parker previously attended Valley Forge Military Academy and served in the Marine Corps. “How do you embarrass your left-wing, liberal, pacifist mother? You make a great soldier,” she joked on The View in 2014.

Parker graduated from Los Angeles Film School in January 2025.

“Thank you to all the instructors and advisors who helped me earn my degree,” he wrote on Instagram. “I would like to thank my family for giving me the opportunity to complete my higher education.”

He has been dating a woman named Asia for the past two years and they share a dog named Boots.

Chelsea Bell O’Donnell, 28 years old

Chelsea Belle O’Donnell was born on September 20, 1997, and adopted as a baby by O’Donnell and Carpenter. The View alum and her eldest daughter didn’t always have the easiest relationship, as they were estranged on and off throughout Chelsea’s teenage years and early adulthood.

In August 2015, O’Donnell announced that Chelsea was missing from her home in New York. She was found a week later and then moved to Wisconsin to live with her mother, Deanna Micauley.

O’Donnell’s publicist, Cindy Berger, told PEOPLE at the time, “Chelsea decided that when she turned 18, she wanted to live with her birth mother. This was her choice.”

In March 2017, Chelsea sat down with her then-husband Nick Aliguro for an on-air interview with Inside Edition.

“Growing up, I really didn’t get along with her, and once she kicked me out, it was over,” she said. “I miss the rest of my family so much, but I think there’s some much-needed space between me and Rosie, and I’m glad we’re able to do that,” she added.

The following year, O’Donnell and Chelsea got back together over Chelsea’s pregnancy. After Chelsea’s boyfriend, Jacob Bourassa, shared a photo of her sonogram on Facebook, O’Donnell’s rep tells PEOPLE that they started communicating again.

Chelsea gave birth to a baby girl, Skyler Rose, in December 2018. The comedian was overjoyed to become grandparents for the first time, posting a photo of Chelsea and Skyler in the hospital, writing: “My daughter Chels – Jake – and Skylar Rose is my first grandchild!!! #love #life #NANA.”

“It was really beautiful,” O’Donnell said on a January 2019 episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers. “It’s such a common thing, but everyone says it. Being a grandparent is like having a baby times a million times more. And that’s what it was like.”

Chelsea is now a mother of four children. She gave birth to daughter Riley in January 2021, daughter Avery Lynn in February 2022, and son Atlas in October 2023.

Chelsea was arrested three times in Wisconsin between September 2024 and November 2024, starting with a September 2024 arrest for multiple felonies, including child neglect and methamphetamine possession.

After her third arrest in November 2024, Chelsea pled guilty in February 2025 to charges of resisting or obstructing a police officer, felony bail jumping, and possession of methamphetamine, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE.

The following month, a Wisconsin judge sentenced Chelsea to six months of probation with the possibility of prison time if she violates the terms of her probation, including not having contact with known drug users or dealers and not possessing a firearm. Chelsea’s probation was subsequently revoked and she was sentenced to prison on October 22.

O’Donnell responded in a statement to PEOPLE, saying, “My heart goes out to those struggling with addiction. Chelsea was born with an addiction, and it has been a difficult journey for her and her four young children. We will continue to love and support her as she navigates this terrible time. Prayers are welcome.”

Blake Christopher O’Donnell, 25 years old

Blake, the second son of the O’Donnell family, keeps his life very private. Born on December 5, 1999, he was the third child O’Donnell and Carpenter adopted through adoption while they were dating.

In August 2018, when X started attending Marist College in New York, she posted, “I dropped my son off to college. I can’t believe it.”

In December 2022, Rosie announced her son’s engagement in an Instagram post. Blake proposed to Teresa Garofalou Westervelt during a Broadway performance of “The Phantom of the Opera.”

“Last night my son Blake asked his girlfriend Teresa to marry him and she said yes!!! The crowd applauded and Hillary Clinton was there too. I cried the whole time watching Phantom of the Opera. I wish my mom was here to see it all #love #family,” he captioned the post.

The two eventually married on August 16, 2024, in a lavish ceremony in which Blake’s sister Vivian served as “best man.”

Vivian Rose O’Donnell, 22 years old

Vivian is the fourth child O’Donnell shares with Carpenter. She was born on November 29, 2002 and is currently enrolled at the University of Delaware.

When Vivian graduated from high school in 2021, her mother couldn’t contain her pride. “Bibi and Jackie – As Vivi graduates from high school – I can’t believe it – I’m so proud of you, honey – you are an amazing young woman #Vivi #Graduation #Love,” O’Donnell wrote on Instagram.

Vivian and her mother share a passion for social media, as O’Donnell revealed that she spent time learning TikTok dances during quarantine. “I have a 17-year-old in the middle of a pandemic and I’m trying to make her happy,” she said on an April 2020 episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers.

In 2022, Vivian became a hot topic when she said on TikTok that her upbringing was not “normal.” She told her followers: “I love all the comments about how Rosie has kept my life ‘normal’.” No offense, Mom, that never happened. She really didn’t let us know anything about anything. ”

O’Donnell readily acknowledged that Vivian’s childhood was “unusual, unlike her friends.” In a candid TikTok, the Roseanne actress said, “It’s okay, in our family we are allowed to express our emotions. Even if we do it online in a funny way.”

In another TikTok, Vivienne shared a hilarious story about how she realized the family friend she used to call “Mo” was none other than Madonna. “This beautiful woman always came to my birthday parties and I was like, ‘Yeah, there’s Mo,'” she said. “I had no idea who she was. …Then I found out it had been Madonna for years.”

Clay O’Donnell, 12 years old

Less than a year after O’Donnell married his second wife, Lowndes, the former couple adopted son Clay, who was born on January 5, 2013.

O’Donnell filed for divorce from Lowndes in 2015, citing an “irretrievably broken relationship,” according to documents obtained by PEOPLE at the time. Lowndes sought sole custody of Clay, but he tragically died by suicide in 2017.

“I am saddened to hear about this terrible tragedy,” O’Donnell told PEOPLE in a statement at the time. “Mental illness is a very serious issue that affects many families. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Michelle’s family, wife, and children.”

In September 2022, O’Donnell wrote an emotional essay for PEOPLE in which she opened up about Clay’s autism diagnosis for the first time. The diagnosis forces her to “see the world from a completely different place.”

“[Clay]is a gift from another dimension. It’s been an amazing, magical experience. We’re so happy to have each other,” O’Donnell said of her youngest son. “I didn’t want (Clay) to feel shame about (their) diagnosis. I’ve told (them) from the beginning that autism is (their) superpower.”

She added, “I’m learning to have a much deeper sense of compassion than I ever had before. I’ve been able to really listen and communicate in a way I never had to with other children. The sense of vulnerability that comes with having a child with autism is a gift to me.”

The comedian also recalled the moment Clay asked to meet his birth mother. “We’ve been in touch, so[Clay]FaceTimed me and said, ‘Are you the woman that I was in your womb? I wanted you to know that I was the child that was there. When I was born, mommy held me and I held her little finger, and I’m with her. So, I just want you to know that that happened to me. Goodbye,'” O’Donnell recalled.

She continued, “I cried, as did (their) birth mother. It was a very intense, complicated, emotional thing for (Clay) to put together.”

“I think about my birth parents every day,” O’Donnell added of other children she has adopted.

On January 15, 2025, O’Donnell and Clay immigrated to Ireland. In a TikTok video, the comedian and actress appeared to explain that her permanent move was due to President Donald Trump’s reelection.
