Alec Baldwin paid tribute to his Beetlejuice co-star Catherine O’Hara, who passed away on Friday.
“Catherine O’Hara was one of the film industry’s greatest comedic talents,” Baldwin told Page Six in a statement Friday through her representative.
“I feel for Beau and her family because she had her own qualities,” he added.
Alec’s wife, Hilaria, also paid tribute to the “Schitt’s Creek” actress, sharing a video of her husband and O’Hara on the set of the 1988 movie with the caption, “Rest In Peace.”
“Rest in peace, Catherine O’Hara,” she added, calling her a “legend.”
In Tim Burton’s cult classic, Alec plays Adam Maitland, a recently deceased man who cheerfully haunts the house of eccentric interior designer Delia Dietz, played by Catherine O’Hara, after he and his wife take over the house.
Their co-stars included Winona Ryder, Geena Davis, Jeffrey Jones, and Michael Keaton.
Keaton also paid tribute to his former castmate, writing on Instagram, “We went back before the first Beetlejuice. She pretended to be my wife, pretended to be my nemesis, and was my true friend in real life.”
He added: “This hurts. I’m going to miss her and think about Beau too.”
O’Hara died Friday at his home in California. She was 71 years old.
“Prolific award-winning actress, author, and comedian Catherine O’Hara passed away today at her home in Los Angeles after a brief illness,” her agency, Creative Artists Agency, confirmed in a statement to Page Six.
Page Six reported that the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a call at her home at 4:48 a.m. and later confirmed that they transported her to the hospital in “serious” condition.
The cause of her death has not yet been revealed, but she is said to have missed filming Season 2 of The Studio last week.
“She was scheduled to be filmed, but the schedule was rearranged to focus on scenes that didn’t involve her character,” a production source told The Sun.
O’Hara’s film schedule was said to have changed due to “personal circumstances.”
A production source said, “Her death is a complete shock to everyone involved with the show. She was the most loved person on set,” adding, “This is a great loss not only to The Studio, but to the entire world. She is a legend.”
The source believes O’Hara did not film any scenes for the Apple TV show before her death.
