Indianapolis Metropolitan Police have announced that they have taken to X on Saturday afternoon to arrest Fox Sports analyst Mark Sanchez for his role in the October 4 stab wound incident that landed a former NFL quarterback at the hospital.
Sanchez was arrested while still in the hospital on suspicion of injuries, illegal motor vehicle break-in and battery with public poisoning, according to an IMPD statement. The statement points out that Sanchez has not yet been charged by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.
IMPD said it was investigating a physical altercation near Senate Street and West Washington around 12:30am local time on Saturday. The incident left Sanchez the unnamed second party with “an injury that matches the stab wound.” The detective believed it was an isolated incident and not a random act of violence.
Variety has contacted Sanchez’s representatives for a statement.
Sanchez was hospitalized after stabbing him in downtown Indianapolis on the evening of October 3rd. Fox Sports reports he is currently in stable condition.
TMZ Sports first reported stabbing early Sunday morning, and Fox Sports later confirmed the story with a statement confirming Sanchez’s hospitalization.
A Fox statement said: “Mark Sanchez was injured in Indianapolis on Saturday and is currently recovering in a stable state in hospital. We are deeply grateful to our medical team for their extraordinary care and support. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark.
Sanchez was in Indianapolis for the October 5th NFL game between the Indianapolis Colts and the Las Vegas Raiders at Lucas Oil Stadium. It is unclear whether he will still be in the game as an analyst or joining.
Information on Sanchez’s attackers has not been revealed yet, but the Metropolitan Police Department in Indianapolis reports that it was an isolated incident and not a random act of violence. Another man was also injured and lacerated along with Sanchez in the incident.
The New York Jets selected Sanchez as the first round pick of the 2009 NFL Draft. He spent five years with the Jets before signing with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2014. He served as backup quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears and Washington Redskins before his retirement in 2018. He has been the NFL color analyst for Fox and Fox Sports 1 since the 2021 season.
