Academy Award nominee Adriana Barraza has joined the cast of Jonah Hill’s upcoming Warner Bros. comedy Cut Off, Variety has learned exclusively.
The film follows a pair of wealthy brothers who suddenly find themselves isolated from their parents. Barraza plays a loving family caregiver and co-stars with Hill, Kristen Wiig, Bette Midler, and Nathan Lane.
Hill will direct Cut Off, which he co-wrote with Ezra Woods. He will also produce alongside Matt Dines and Ali Goodwin under the Strong Baby banner. Jesse Urman and Zach Hamby are directing the project for Warner Bros., and the film is scheduled to be released in theaters worldwide on July 17, 2026.
The project is one of a handful of studio comedies currently scheduled to shoot in California, and production is expected to begin this fall. As Variety exclusively reported, he received a $10 million tax credit.
Barraza has more than 50 years of experience in the entertainment industry and is widely recognized as one of the finest Latina actresses in film and television. She was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Babel (2006), making her one of only 13 Latina actresses and one of only six Mexican actresses ever nominated for an Oscar.
Her other notable credits include “Amores Perros,” also directed by Iñárritu. “Cake” opposite Jennifer Aniston. and Netflix’s global hit We Can Be Heroes, directed by Robert Rodriguez. In 2024, she was nominated for the International Emmy Award for Best Actress for her role in El Último Vagón and was one of the winners at the 4th Latin American Film and Television Festival for her performance in Roadside Attractions’ My Penguin Friend.
Most recently, she played the fan-favorite Nana opposite Xolo Maridueña in the DC Studios superhero film Blue Beetle, directed by Ángel Manuel Soto. She will next be seen in the Amazon Prime Video series El Gato, starring Diego Boneta, which is also scheduled for release in 2026.
