The acting awards, formerly known as the Screen Actors Guild Awards, are getting a boost from the Met Gala.
The guild announced Thursday morning that for the first time ever, the awards will feature a “fashion” theme on the red carpet, “reimagining Hollywood glamor of the ’20s and ’30s.”
The guidelines are part of a new collaboration between the annual film and TV awards show and fashion magazine Elle.
“As The Actors Awards continues to evolve to a global audience, partnering with Elle allows us to elevate fashion as a central creative outlet for the show,” said John Brockett, Showrunner and Executive Producer of The Actors Awards. “This is an opportunity to bring together the red carpet, the show, and the culture surrounding it into one cohesive moment.”
“Elle has a long history with Hollywood, and we have always championed both emerging talent and established stars,” said Nina Garcia, editor-in-chief of Elle. “Our vision of fashion is forever intertwined with what we see on screen. “That’s why we’re excited to have Elle join the Actor Awards as our first-ever fashion partner. We’re excited to bring our unique editorial perspective to an event that celebrates the power of creativity, craft, and storytelling.”
The news comes on the heels of the Met Gala-style red carpet at this year’s Golden Globe Awards. Similar to the Met Ball, upon arrival there was a photographer and video crew stationed on either side of the carpet, and a quick photo op was held on the stairs just behind the photo row.
Nominations for Best Actor were announced on January 7th by Conor Storey and Janelle James. Paul Thomas Anderson’s action blockbuster One Battle After Another leads the field with seven nominations, the most in the history of the awards show. The Warner Bros. production earned five nominations in the cast ensemble, stunt ensemble, and acting categories for Leonardo DiCaprio, Chase Infinity, Benicio Del Toro, Sean Penn, and Teyana Taylor.
Warner Bros. was the top studio overall with 12 nominations for four titles, followed by Focus Features with six, A24 with four and Netflix with three.
Fellow Warner Bros. director Ryan Coogler’s Sinners received five nominations, tying the record for second-most nominations in SAG history.
The 32nd Annual Actor Awards, presented by SAG-AFTRA, will be streamed globally on Netflix on Sunday, March 1st.
