The last photo of Robert Redford before his death showed that he was doing what he loved – defending environmental change.
Almost four years ago, the “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” actor and his wife, Cibilel Cigars, attended Prince Albert II at the Monaco Foundation’s 2021 awards ceremony at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco.
At the time, Redford and the 68-year-old German artist took photos at the annual ceremony. This pays homage to key individuals and organizations for their deep commitment to maintaining the planet.
The Oscar winner wore an all-white suit in tumble boots while his wife rocked his all-white dress and boots.
At one point, Redford, who married Szaggars in 2009, had taken a photo and held his arm as he chatted with Prince Albert II.
The director, who won a special award at the 2019 ceremony, was a well-known activist known for his work in environmentalism, Native American affairs and art.
In 2005 he and his late son James Redford washed the Redford Centre, an independent environmental nonprofit. This was dedicated solely to environmental impact filmmaking.
Redford officials announced on Tuesday that the actor had sadly passed away. He was 89 years old.
“Robert Redford passed away on September 16, 2025 at his home in Sundance in the mountains of Utah. Surrounded by the places he loved, the people he loved,” a spokesman told Page 6.
“He’s going to be overlooked a lot. The family demands privacy.”
The New York Times reported that Robert had died of sleep. However, the official cause of death of the “Horse Whisper” star has not been revealed.
In Aziton to Aziton, Robert was survived by two children, Shauna, 64, and Amy, 54.
Weigenen, 86, who married from 1958 to 1985, and the actor shared two sons. Scott died at two months of age of sudden infant death syndrome.
Robert’s acting career began in 1959 with his Broadway debut with “Tall Story.” The following year, the adaptation of the play became his first film.
Robert announced he will retire from acting in 2018 after a long career filled with acting, director and award winning.
The “Indecency Proposal” star later called the announcement “but telling people “don’t say that” a “mistake.” He appeared again on screen six years ago in March, hoping for a “Dark Wind” cameo.
