The royal family, with the exception of one senior member, is on the united front, lamenting Catherine, the Duchess of Kent.
Catherine, the royal family’s oldest, passed away earlier this month at the age of 92. She married Elizabeth II’s first cousin, Prince Edward, the Duke of Kent, 89.
Other senior members, including King Charles III and Prince William and Kate Middleton, attended Westminster Cathedral in London on Tuesday.
Prince Andrew, Duke of York and Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, were among those who appeared to pay respect.
However, Charles’ wife, Queen Camilla, 78, was significantly absent.
“In great regret, Queen Ma, under the Queen, has retreated in attendance at this afternoon’s Requiem Mass for the Duchess of Kent, as she is recovering from acute sinusitis,” Buckingham Palace announced before the event.
“Her thoughts and prayers will be with the Duke of Kent and all her family.”
The BBC News noted that this was the first Catholic funeral of modern royal members, and that messages from Pope Leo XIV are read out loud during service.
Following Mass, the Duchess Fin is taken by the Spirit Hearse to the royal burial site of Frogmore.
Her ffin was resting overnight at Lady Chapel following Monday’s reception and Vesper’s ritual.
Union Flag flew half-mast at all official royal residences on Tuesday.
The funeral comes shortly after Renegade Royal Prince Harry visits the UK.
Last week, 41-year-old Harry crossed the pond to visit her grandmother Queen Elizabeth’s cemetery, attending an event for a charity, and met her father, who was first hit by cancer in a year and a half.
US Weekly reported that the reunion was born, saying that after the prince wrote “Charles,” he expressed his desire to reconnect earlier this year.
Page 6 was told that the father-son duo were shyed for an hour of “private tea” at Clarence House, King’s London home on Wednesday, and Harry showed dad photos and videos.
Us Weekly added that there were “embracing and tears” during the meeting.
The Duke of Sussex told reporters shortly after the reunion that Charles, 76, was doing something “great” following the announcement of cancer in February 2024.
After the trip, Harry, who resigned from his royal duties in 2020 and moved his family to the United States, made it clear that he would spend more time in his hometown of England and take his children with him.
“This week definitely brought it closer,” the Duke shared six-year-old Prince Archie and four-year-old Princess Lillivet with his wife Meghan Markle, who admitted to the Guardian.
