Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have made three films together over the four years, The Last Duell, The Air and The Rip. In a new interview with GQ Magazine, the longtime friend and the “Good Will Hunting” Oscar winner said they have no plans to quit working together. Damon said he realized he needed to make a film with Affleck after watching Peter Jackson’s 2021 Beatles documentary “Get Back.” Damon shed tears in his eyes and immediately thought of Affleck.
“If we’re in the market in both films, who cares?” Damon said. “We’re crazy if we don’t take advantage of the fact that we’re still here and can do this.”
“Every time I act with Matt, it’s a humble experience, as I learn to be even more grateful for how good the actor is,” Affleck added to GQ. I admire him in great detail. ”
Damon and Affleck’s careers have been together since their early days of acting together in Kevin Smith films like “Dogma.” However, they have recently collaborated like never before through an artist equity production banner. Their new project, the crime thriller, The Rip, directed by Joe Carnahan, will be streamed exclusively to Netflix in 2026.
Affleck revealed in Entertainment Weekly a few years ago that it was Damon who helped Affleck get his career back on track after appearing in “Justice League.” Damon was “a major influence” on his friend’s decision to draw a line in his friend’s sand when he came to the kind of part he was supposed to work on.
“I want to do something that brings joy to me. Then we went and had a ‘final duel’ and enjoyed every day with this film,” Affleck said. “I wasn’t a star, I wasn’t a good person. I was the villain. It wasn’t everything I thought I was thinking when I started, but it was a great experience.
