Tony Hale explains why he’s “so much fun” to play Iron Man’s rival in his new kids series for preschoolers, “so much fun” to see kids working together with these superpowers solve challenges and work together and see it gives great lessons.”

His character is said to be dysfunctional, meek, scary, and even plastic, but Tony Hale is now switching things around, but in animation form, playing the role of a villain.

“I love it. It’s so much fun,” he tells people when he talks about his latest project, Marvel’s Iron Man and his amazing friends. “It’s a very beautiful show. It’s so much fun to play only those who are causing challenges to these iron friends.”

In the animated Disney series aimed at children, Hale, 54, plays the ominous Ultron, one of Iron Man’s main rivals. He sees his character, who is in the same pulsating as the child catcher of Chittiti Bamban, or even the evil witch of the Wizard of Oz.

“He’s like coming back to the classic mustache-twist villain,” says the two-time Emmy winner. “It’s a bit fun. It’s a fun villain.”

Hale likes the simplicity of these animated characters and “I would have loved” if his now 19-year-old daughter, Royan, had the freedom to use shows like her as TOT.

“For preschoolers, to see kids with these superpowers, to see these friends working together, to solve challenges and work together,” he added.

The series offers a glimpse of Iron Man in his childhood, but Hale admits he is “very jealous” to a very wealthy, fictional superhero who is crafted by Robert Downey Jr. in the Marvel universe.

“How wonderful is it just having that high tech room?” he laughed. “Just step into it and put some cool technology on someone. That’s pretty amazing. I’m very jealous. I mean, I can barely work with an iPhone, so I’m into it to get all those machines to do it for me.”

Marvel’s Iron Man and his amazing friends premiered at Disney Junior on August 11th and can be streamed on Disney+.
