Ryan Reynolds took to the stage for discussion about his career following the premiere of his documentary, “John Candy: I Like Me” (via Entertainment Weekly), which he produced at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 5th. In many anecdotes as an actor and producer for the “Deadpool” star, Reynolds shared a humble and humorous story when he pissed off his co-star Denzel Washington when a call came out during a pivotal take on the set of 2012’s “Safe House.”

Director Daniel Espinosa’s “Safe House” is an action thriller starring Reynolds and Washington, and is a secret agent who builds a tense team-up when the mercenaries start cornering them. But when filming the final sequence of the film, Reynolds’ phone runs off midway, with director, crew and eventually Washington saying, “Who’s the fuck’s call?”

As Reynolds recalls it, the final scene was the emotional climax of the story. There, Washington’s character is dying and surrounded by his body after a violent battle. Reynolds explains: “He gets shot, wounded, died, he admits everything he did wrong. Tears start rolling down his face. And suddenly you hear – and this is two.

Sinatra’s song happens to be Reynolds’ ringtones, recalls Reynolds playing stupidly and joining when the crew and Washington tried to eliminate the perpetrator to ruin the take.

Reynolds says the assistant director eventually realized that Reynolds was responsible, but advised him to remain modest. “He said, ‘D, can you do something else?” (Washington) was like, ‘Do we have to do that?’ “Reynolds remembers. Not allowed! ”

The actor said, “A stupid stupidity is sitting on his phone. I’m an idiot stupidity in this story. And I see Denzel in tears in his eyes, “What’s going on now?” ”

Despite the onset accident, “SafeHouse” sold $208 million at the box office on a relatively small budget, becoming a universal photography sleeper in the first quarter of 2012.
