Prince George turns into a teenager today, and his parents Duchess Kate and Prince William celebrated with more than just a birthday portrait. Hours after sharing new photos of their eldest son, they posted a video shot outdoors to celebrate his 13th birthday. In the video, the couple can be seen enjoying nature together with their younger brother Prince Louis. This clip is a rare glimpse into their lives away from public events.
“Thank you so much for all the birthday wishes to George today! 🎂,” Kate and William wrote.
Earlier in the day, the couple shared a portrait of Prince George in a dressier outfit, taken by Matt Porteous.
In June, Kensington Palace announced that George would be joining Eton College in September. His father, Prince William, and uncle, Prince Harry, also attended elite private boarding schools for boys.
“George always wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps,” a source close to the family told People magazine shortly after the news broke.
George has been appearing at more events this year. He and his sister Princess Charlotte recently competed in the men’s singles final at Wimbledon with their parents.
Little has been revealed about George’s personality, as Duchess Kate and Prince William have sought to give their children as normal and private an education as possible within their royal roles. But last month, People wrote that “friends and observers describe him as thoughtful and serious.”
Kate also talked a little about George’s hobbies in June. During a visit to The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester, she stopped by the music therapy room to discuss what kind of music the children liked. “George wants more rock,” she said. “He loves AC/DC and plays the guitar.”
