Rob Lowe may be best known for his roles on the political series “The West Wing” and, more recently, “9-1-1 Lone Star.” But his next job may be the most serious of them all.
The actor will work with Accredited Debt Relief, a debt settlement company that negotiates with creditors to reduce obligations on credit cards, medical bills and personal loans. The campaign, scheduled to launch in August, aims to challenge the stigma that arises when consumers face financial hardship. In one TV spot, Lowe talked about how his family is grappling with the possibility that his son might not be able to pay for the show and play on the baseball team.
“Americans are carrying more debt than ever before, and the weight of it can be overwhelming. We need to have a candid conversation about real solutions,” Lowe said. “I’m grateful that Certified Debt Relief has invited me to help tell stories that reduce stigma, encourage people to seek help when they need it, and remind them that financial hardship doesn’t define them. Everyone deserves the opportunity to spend less time stressing about money and more time living their lives.”
Lowe has appeared in various advertisements and marketing campaigns over the years. About 10 years ago, he worked on a humorous effort on DirecTV, showcasing outlandish alter egos such as “Super Creepy Rob Lowe” and “Achingly Awkward Rob Lowe.” The commercial received enough attention that rival Comcast at the time complained. The actor also served as a celebrity spokesperson for the Atkins diet.
