Prince Harry is furious at his country’s crushing defeat in the FIFA World Cup semi-finals.
Page Six asked the Duke of Sussex at the TIME100 Sports Gala in New York City on Thursday if he was sad about England’s loss to Argentina on Wednesday, to which he replied: “Of course.”
Prince Harry attended the event alone without his wife, Duchess Meghan. At the event, he was also seen chatting with Time CEO Jessica Sibley.
Argentina defeated England 2-1 in a stunning comeback. Prince Harry wasn’t the only celebrity devastated by the loss. Soccer legend David Beckham was also seen wiping away tears as he watched the game in Atlanta, Georgia. Afterwards, his 21-year-old son, Cruise Beckham, hugged his father and comforted him.
Prince Harry’s older brother Prince William told X that he was “disappointed” by England’s defeat.
“England, you gave your all. We are all so proud of you,” he wrote. “Thank you to everyone on and off the pitch for a great tournament. The fight and belief you showed was an inspiration to us all.”
“This is the most complete England team in the tournament,” he continued. “Hold your head high.”
Harry, 41, recently returned from a return trip to the UK that was filled with drama over his safety and his inability to stay at Buckingham Palace. Prince Harry claimed the invitation was “withdrawn at the last minute”.
However, she was able to take Markle and her children (Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5) to the UK, where they were reunited with King Charles and Queen Camilla.
Buckingham Palace confirmed on July 10 that the meeting took place at Highgrove House, the king’s private residence in Gloucestershire, England. It was the first time Charles, 77, had seen Archie and Lilibet in four years.
Despite the happy reunion, royal correspondent Russell Myers told People that the family trip “became a nightmare” after security concerns forced Markle and her 44-year-old children to return to California earlier than planned.
Another source said the “Suits” alum called her husband “very supportive” but was “very sad” about the outcome of the trip.
The outlet also reported that Prince William, 44, and Prince Harry remain “out of touch” despite a recent visit with their father.
The brothers’ current relationship is “very broken,” the source said.
