Terrence Howard, Guillermo Iván and Kate Bosworth have been cast in the new legal thriller ‘Broken Ones’ from writer-director Timothy Gagliardo.
Inspired by producer and co-writer Alejandro Zavala’s memoir, Broken Ones is based on “real-life experiences in both the criminal justice system and the legal profession,” and explores “salvation, justice, family, and the defining choices that shape a person’s life,” according to the official description.
Ivan plays Joseph Santiago, an ex-felon who uncovers a corporate cover-up while investigating a car accident on behalf of the victim’s family. Howard plays Benjamin Drake, a respected lawyer who seeks to deliver justice to the ultra-wealthy elite. Bosworth appears as Kathleen Sloan, a corporate lawyer whose morals come into question when her client demands the unthinkable.
In a statement analyzing the themes surrounding “Broken Ones,” Howard said, “Why are we doing this? After all, are we turning stones into bread to feed ourselves, or are we turning stones into bread to feed others? This film explores those questions in a very human way. Benjamin Drake’s journey became personal to me, even though this story goes far beyond my own perspective.”
A companion film, Real Ones, which also draws from Zavala’s memoir, is in the works.
Howard is best known for his film roles in “Iron Man” and “Hustle & Flow.” He was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor for the latter. Howard also led the cast of Fox’s Emmy-nominated drama series “Empire” from 2015 to 2020. His latest work includes films such as “Alicia in Wonderland,” “Miami Nights,” and “BFFs.”
Bosworth, who played Lois Lane in 2006’s Superman Returns, most recently starred in the psychological thriller The Immaculate Room. Ivan will appear in the upcoming films “The Exorcist Archives” and “As Good as Dead 2.”
“Broken Ones” is produced by Zavala, Justin Nesbitt and Mika Brandt for UFO Pictures and Michael Pizzimenti for Al Bravo Films. Executive producers include Zavala, Drake, Paul Hughes and Vanessa Hughes of the Drake Law Firm, and David Block of Block & Company.
