“Family Guy” star Seth Green wants you to know that he’s a big fan of “Dungeon Crawler Carl” and would love to join the cast of a live-action TV series, but he doesn’t want to use personal connections to land the role.
The show, which was ordered to series by Peacock last month, is produced by “Dungeon Crawler Carl” creator Matt Dinniman and Green’s longtime friend and collaborator Seth MacFarlane.
Shortly after the announcement, Green posted a piece of art on Instagram showcasing various versions of the character Mordecai, the mentor to the titular Carl and his sidekick Princess Donut, with the caption, “Who is your favorite Carl character? I’m a Mordecai fan myself.” Fans quickly noticed that he tagged Dinniman, McFarlane, and McFarlane’s production company Fuzzy Door in the post.
So, should this be his first pitch to be considered for the role? Of sorts!
“My wife Claire (Grant) read chapters of[the latest book, A Parade of Horribles]even before it was posted on Patreon,” Green told Variety in a recent interview about joining the Global Gaming League as an advisory board member. “So I’ve known about this for quite some time and you probably know that my friend Seth MacFarlane’s company, Fuzzy Door, is producing this project. So I thought they would make a really good Mordecai. I don’t know what their plans are. No one’s talking about it. I love Matt Dinniman and I’ve definitely spent time with him, but I don’t know if he’s going to have a lot of say in that. ”
And yes, Green knows both of the major players here. But the prolific voice actor, best known for his series “Robot Chicken,” says he wants to take on the prestigious role.
“Really, the only thing that’s convincing is like a thick fan movement where people collectively agree that I can play the role,” Green says. “That would be really helpful. But otherwise, I think we’re all just fans of this stuff and looking forward to seeing how it translates.”
The official logline for the “Dungeon Crawler Carl” TV series, written by Chris Yost (“The Mandalorian”), is as follows: “An alien invasion wipes out most of humanity, and the survivors are forced to fight for their lives in a sadistic intergalactic game show. Sounds bad, right? So go ahead and do it in a dungeon with a barefoot, stuck-up, self-centered, tiara-wearing talking cat as your partner. Welcome to Crawlers: Earth, where the apocalypse is on TV…and Coast Guard veteran Carl finds himself with his ex-girlfriend, award-winning show cat Anne Chok, Queen of Donuts, as they try to survive the end of the world while battling monsters, aliens, crazy AI, and even other survivors…It’s all about good TV.”
The cast for the project has not yet been announced, but fans can expect more information about the film adaptation when Dinniman appears at San Diego Comic-Con later this month.
