‘Bachelorette’ alum Joe Amabile revealed that doctors discovered what they believe to be an “early stage brain tumor” after undergoing an MRI scan.
“I had a blueberry-sized lesion on my brain that appeared to be a tumor, a glioma,” the TV personality shared on Instagram on Monday.
Looking downcast, Amabile revealed that the next step would be brain surgery, specifically a craniotomy, within two weeks. “We’re going to remove it, get it checked out, and start from there.”
Amabile, 40, said the past few weeks had been “wild” and admitted she “absolutely never expected anything like this” and that she “absolutely” never expected to face the cancer scare.
“We are told it is still in its early stages,” he added. “I hope they understand everything. I’m fine, but I’ll keep you updated.”
In the caption, the Bachelor Nation alum told fans, “I’m trying my best to stay positive during this time and I’m lucky to have so much support from my family and friends.”
“I’ve been going back and forth about what I want to share on social media, but in the end this has become a part of my life so it might be a good idea to do so. On to a new journey,” he concluded.
Amabile received an outpouring of support in the comments section of Bachelor Nation, including one from his wife, Serena Pitt, who wrote, “You are so strong and we will get through this together ❤️ I love you.”
Zach Clark wrote, “I love you, brother. You are a great friend to me and many others. You will get through this and help many people. Good luck.”
Joey Graziadei commented, “Sending you love and support brother ❤️ Can’t wait to get better and play a round of golf,” while Wells Adams wrote, “Love you brother. You got this and we got you! 🙏🏼❤️.”
Amabile rose to fame on season 14 of The Bachelorette in 2018, competing for the affections of that season’s star Becca Kufrin.
Despite being eliminated on the first night, he earned the nickname “Grocery Store Joe” and became a fan-favorite contestant. Due to his popularity, he competed on “Dancing with the Stars” Season 27 later that year alongside Jenna Johnson, ultimately coming in fifth place.
Amabile also appeared on Season 5 of Bachelor in Paradise in 2018 and Season 7 in 2021, where she met her pet.
The couple, who announced that they would step down as co-hosts of the Bachelor Happy Hour podcast in 2026, married in 2022.
