Former Malcolm in the Middle star Frankie Muniz has announced that he has decided to divorce Paige Price, his wife of six years.
Muniz, 40, made the announcement on Instagram on Wednesday, and it appears the breakup was very amicable, with Paige expressing her support for her in the comments section.
But in a strange twist, the announcement marks Muniz’s second attempt to reveal the breakup, following the “brutal” online reaction he received when he first tried to break the news.
He quickly deleted the original post, which included a video of the couple dancing with their young son, which some thought was inappropriate in light of the news.
“After a period of our secret separation, Paige and I have decided to move forward with ending our marriage,” Muniz wrote.
“After 10 wonderful years together, we have grown so much that our relationship feels most natural and strong, both as a deep friendship and as parents.
“We share an amazing son, and he continues to be the center of our world. And we are both happier, stronger parents because of the love and growth we shared.”
Muniz paid tribute to his wife who “put her own dreams on hold to pursue hers” and said the couple had a “foundation of respect and friendship” that will last.
He said the two will continue to co-raise their son and work together on the actor-turned-stock car racer’s business, Muniz Racing.
Muniz’s ex, Paige, left a comment under the post, but she and others referred to Muniz’s original post, which has since been deleted.
Muniz had shared a video of her family happily dancing in their living room, but the upbeat video seemed to draw negative reactions from people who felt it was in poor taste for a post announcing the breakup of a marriage.
“Frankie, I’m so sorry you felt the need to delete old fun videos of our family because people are so cruel to you. This world is so messed up…Divorce is bad, sure – not that we’re thrilled about it…but we’re two adults who know how to be on the same team. I can’t believe people can scrutinize that,” Page wrote under the post.
Fans who saw the original post also offered their support.
One fan said: “Aww. I’m glad I got to see it first before it disappeared. It was so cute.”
“The video was amazing. As a child of a bad divorce, it was healing to see two people loving each other, loving themselves, and getting through it together,” another wrote.
“I thought this video was so sweet and hopeful. No matter what, you are an amazing family and always will be,” read another thumbs up.
Muniz began dating actress and model Paige in 2016, married four years later, and welcomed their son together in 2021.
