Peta Murgatroyd and Maksim Chmerkovskiy have officially left Los Angeles and headed to Florida.
The “Dancing with the Stars” alums made the decision to leave L.A. and move to Boca Raton with their three sons – Shai, 9, Rio, 3, and Milan, 1 – and documented their emotional journey in a YouTube video that Murgatroyd posted on Monday.
Murgatroyd, 39, and Chmerkovskiy, 46, also shared a video on Instagram of themselves crying in a car with a moving box in the back seat.
She writes, “There are unexpected tears, breakups that are more shocking than I imagined, and moments when I wonder if I made the right decision.”
“But sometimes you have to leave what’s comfortable to find what’s meaningful to you.”
The professional dancer said she knows she and her husband made the “best decision” for their family.
“Our boys are so happy, our hearts are full, and we are so grateful for this new chapter,” she wrote. “Goodbye LA. Hello Florida. 🌴❤️”
In another Instagram post, Murgatoid said all the trouble of moving was worth it.
Sharing the family time they’ve spent so far in Florida, she said, “Happiness, a slower pace, sunshine, watching our boys love each other every second…it was everything we hoped for and more.”
In a YouTube video, the two-time “DWTS” champion chronicled her emotional reaction to seeing her family’s empty Los Angeles home after packing up all their belongings.
“It’s been a fun journey, LA,” she said of her hometown of 16 years. “But we have to move on to new things, new lives, new adventures, and make new memories.”
There was nothing wrong with this move. Murgatroyd said Shai’s bike had been stolen and suspected she had something to do with the homeless woman who had helped the woman scavenge the day before. She said she gave the Georgia woman, who appeared to be only in her 20s, as much food and blankets as she could.
“We looked in the fridge,” Chmerkovskyy said off-camera.
Murgatroyd said she hopes the woman and her boyfriend don’t come back and steal her eldest son’s bike.
“We had the garage door open, not at night, but just so she could see what was in there. Of course we closed it at night, but it’s really chic,” she said.
“I told Max, ‘Leave me alone, leave me alone,'” she continued. “They need it more than we do, so that’s it anyway.”
Murgatroyd and Chmerkovskiy married in July 2017. The couple received lots of supportive comments about the move from former DWTS castmates, including sister-in-law Jenna Johnson, who wrote, “I love this post but I’m crying while posting it! I missed you already 🥹😭♥️.”
“DWTS” alum Sharna Burgess commented, “I missed you and I love this for you and your family. Looks great on your soon to be visiting babe ❤️❤️!”
DWTS judge Carrie Ann Inaba also praised the couple, writing, “Bravo for the courage. 👏👏A new beginning… It takes so much courage to move. I’m inspired!”
