Amal Clooney says navigating her life and career was “easier” before her high-profile marriage to George Clooney.
“It’s now easier because you can decide what kind of exposure you want,” the human rights lawyer said during an appearance at the Cartier Dialogue event in Bangkok earlier this month.
“It was a new thing to navigate,” she added, according to the Daily Mail.
Elsewhere in the interview, the 48-year-old mother-of-two reflected on how she was previously able to separate her personal life from her career.
“It was a strange phenomenon,” she said. “I used to have a work life and a personal life, but they could look quite different and I was able to avoid mixing them… Then I got married and that changed a lot.”
“At first, I was kind of conscious of the one-dimensional view that I’m going to be in front of a judge on Monday and there’s no way I’m going to be seen wearing this dress or doing this, but you know that’s not as important as living your life,” Amal explained.
She added, “Ultimately, whether you’re good at what you do or not will determine whether it shines.”
Amal clarified: “I cannot let that stop me from doing things that are important to my family and my relationships.”
Amal married the Ocean’s Eleven star in 2014 in a lavish star-studded ceremony in Italy.
They then welcomed twins Ella and Alexander, who are now 9 years old.
George has repeatedly boasted about his wife and the fact that they haven’t fought in the 12 years they’ve been married.
“I feel much more secure and less willing to win arguments,” he told the Los Angeles Times in January. “When you’re young, you try to win everything.”
As for Amal, she is thankful for her husband’s unwavering support throughout her illustrious career. “I have a life partner who is very supportive of what I do,” she told Glamor magazine in a profile last year.
“So I don’t feel like I need to apologize or hold back on that.”
